Princess Kristin turns 18 and, by old legend, must marry at once or be carried off by a troll to the mountain. She refuses the prince sent to wed her and runs. The king offers her hand and half his kingdom to whoever brings her back, and three poor farm brothers, Per, Pål and Espen the Ash Lad, set out to find her and face the Mountain King to save the family farm.

Drawn from the old Norwegian Askeladden fairy tales, with trolls, fjords and a little unpolished CGI. The sequel is Ash Lad 2: In Search of the Golden Castle (2019).
